Windows Mobile 6.5 is ready sometime early next year on Sprint also update will be available for sure on the Touch Pro2, and likely will come on most other Windows phones carried by Sprint.
In addition, Owens mentioned that they would like to get WM7 as soon as it’s possible, but it’s all dependant on Microsoft at this point.
Other notable points in the chat session include:
* Android updates for the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment (no specific version mentioned, but we sure hope he means 2.0)
* WiMax phones coming in 2010
* Blackberry devices will be coming with WiFi included, and that includes the Tour
* Lots of HTC and Blackberry devices next year; HTC will mainly be Android
* Possibility that CDMA/GSM Android hybrid phones will be available 2010
* Absolutely no tethering on phones with the Everything plan (so much for it literally meaning everything, eh?)
Sprint’s casual attitude towards updating to WM 6.5 is a big concern. Given the recent quarterly numbers report, they need any edge they can get; but nobody wants to buy a WM 6.1 device anymore. It’s officially outdated. 6.5 should have been ready to go this month, in my opinion.
I’m sure though that other factors are coming into play that have forced Sprint to delay updates on its Windows phones, Sprint Exec David Owens admitted
